Nintendo Announces The Wii U

Nintendo was the last of the big three to take the stage for their pre-E3 press conference. There were mixed feelings from the fan base as to how Sony and Microsoft performed in their presentations, and for many people, expectations for Nintendo were high as they looked for an announcement regarding the highly anticipated new gaming console.</p>

Their opening was definitely different from the others. As some expected, Nintendo put the Legend of Zelda in the spotlight at the beginning, as it is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary. What surprised many was the live orchestra that accompanied the video montage. Music is truly a major part of Zelda, and this was a bold choice.

With Zelda being one of Nintendo’s signature games, they are pulling out all the stops for this major anniversary. Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was released earlier this week, as part of the opening of the Nintendo 3DS eShop, and next week Ocarina of Time 3D will be available for the 3DS. Not to leave out DSi owners, Four Swords will be released for that system in September, for free.
